What is ASTM A500 Square Steel Tube?
ASTM A500 steel tube is a corrosion-resistant steel tube that can be used in construction applications. The steel tube specification is carbon steel tubing that is seamless and cold-formed. There are round square and rectangular pipes of this grade. ASTM A500 Steel Tube has 427MPa minimum tensile strength with 317MPa minimum yield strength. The ASTM A500 Steel Tube is the strongest in terms of tensile strength. ASTM A500 Steel Tube has the lowest tensile strength of 310MPa with a minimum yield strength of 228MPa. The ASTM A500 Schedule 40 Tube is one of the medium-ranging schedules and can hold good pressure and temperatures. There are different finishes to the pipes and the unfinished is the ASTM A500 Black Steel Tube. The composition includes carbon, manganese, sulfur, phosphorus, and copper when specified. The chemical combination is the reason for the ASTM A500 Tube strength and corrosion resistance. The pipes can also be welded with most welding methods but caution has to be taken to preheat the pipes before welding through high-temperature procedures such as electric arc welding to avoid welding cracks. Post-weld heat treatment is also necessary after high-temperature welding.

ASTM A500 specification covers welded and seamless carbon steel tubing in round, square, rectangular, and “special” shapes for construction and structural purposes. Specification Notes
● According to ASTM A500 steel tube, the weld seam location for square, rectangle, and other specially shaped tubing shall not be located within the corner radius, unless specified by the customer or manufacturer.
● Under ASTM A500 steel tube, the corner radius for square and rectangular tubing shall not exceed three times the corner radius.
● As a standard under ASTM A500 steel tube, electric resistance welded tubing is normally provided without removal of inside flash. If flash control is required, please specify at the time of quotation or order placement.
